‘Costing taxpayers’: First Nations ambassador position grilled over failure to produce a strategy

Shadow Assistant Minister for Citizenship Dave Sharma believes Australians deserve answers on what the First Nations Ambassador has achieved.

“I was astonished; I thought it was a straightforward question; we get a straightforward answer, and we move on,” Mr Sharma told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“Instead, I had a whole lot of sub-diffuse and deflection about whether a strategy exists, how does it exist, if it’s a document or not.

“This is a role that has been in place for three years now; it’s costing taxpayers north of a million dollars. It’s not clear what it’s doing that’s different to what everyday diplomats should be doing as part of their core responsibility.”
