$120 million shark surveillance blitz rolls out across NSW

Sky News host Jaimee Rogers details the launch of a massive new NSW shark monitoring program, with more than 150 drones set to patrol beaches in a bid to keep swimmers safe.

“The world’s largest shark monitoring program has officially launched in New South Wales,” Ms Rogers said.

“Backed by the NSW government and Surf Life Saving NSW, more than 150 drones will patrol 70 beaches from dawn until dusk every day, scanning for sharks and alerting swimmers when one is nearby.

“The program comes with a hefty price tag of $120 million over two years.

“It’s a major investment in beach safety and could help reduce the need for more invasive shark mitigation measures.”
