You’re Not the Target Demographic Anymore…
Through the 2000s the film industry was roughly two and a half to three and a half times bigger than games. That has completely inverted. Gaming is now the largest entertainment sector on the planet, bigger than film and music combined, with the conservative comparisons putting it at three times film and the aggressive ones near seven. Once you understand that shift, every complaint about where big-budget games are heading stops being mysterious. The audience changed. Casual players run the top of this industry, which is why the games people gripe about online every year are the same games that finish in the top ten every year. The dinosaurs are not catering to hardcore players anymore and they have stopped pretending otherwise. That is not me defending it. It is me explaining it, and then telling you where to actually go instead.
