X-Men: The MCU Could Make Their First Years Matter
Marvel’s new mutant lineup is starting to reveal what kind of X-Men story the MCU wants to tell. With Asa Germann joining the cast as Warren Worthington III, aka Angel, another piece of Marvel’s younger team has fallen into place. Germann joins Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey, Kit Connor’s Cyclops, Maya Boyd’s Storm and Inde Navarrette’s Rogue.
That age dynamic could be one of the biggest differences between Marvel’s reboot and the previous Fox movies. Instead of beginning with seasoned heroes, director Jake Schreier has a group that could actually grow into the X-Men together.
Angel makes that approach particularly interesting. Warren was one of the five original X-Men introduced by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1963, alongside Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast and Iceman. Marvel hasn’t recreated that exact lineup, but Warren’s inclusion brings the MCU team closer to the founding spirit of the comics.
We break down why the younger X-Men cast matters, how Angel could function within the team, and why the age difference between the students and characters like Professor X, Emma Frost and Mister Sinister could shape the entire movie.
The MCU’s X-Men may be starting smaller so audiences can watch these mutants become the icons we already know.
