Wuthering Heights release brings hype to Brontë hometown | BBC News

The film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, starring Margot Robbie as Cathy and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff, is released in cinemas this week.

It is being marketed using quote marks – “Wuthering Heights” – to imply that this is director Emerald Fennell’s personal take on the famous novel, while Brat singer Charli XCX has written an accompanying album soundtrack.

Despite the reinvention dividing critics, the hype surrounding the film’s release has had an effect on the author’s hometown of Haworth in West Yorkshire, where there’s been a rise in the number of visitors who have come to discover the inspiration behind the gothic tale.
