Wallets Don’t Match The Words

74% of millennial and Gen Z viewers told a Harris Poll they prefer original stories over remakes. In 2024, not one original made the top fifteen. This follow-up separates two words people keep swapping: reactive, where your calendar is set by people you think dislike you, and proactive, where you build and they respond to you. The data: franchise films took 82.5% of worldwide box office in 2019 and 73% of domestic revenue in 2025, new franchise launches collapsed from 20 to 9 in one year, five of the six major studios are over a century old, and the newest one is Netflix, 1997.
