‘Very complicated issue’: Iran may be rebuilding nuclear sites
International relations expert Arman Mahmoudian says the prospect of Iran rebuilding its nuclear sites is a “very complicated” issue.
“Iran may want to play around the edges of the Memorandum of Understanding,” Dr Mahmoudian told Sky News Australia.
“Since the Memorandum of Understanding doesn’t put much of a constraint on Iran’s missile program… they can always make an argument that they are repairing a site that also has functions for Iran’s missile program.
“In the absence of any verification system and IAEA inspectors, it’s going to be very hard for us to see which direction it is.
“It definitely doesn’t help the current tension; it definitely doesn’t help the de-escalation, and it may add to the suspicion of the Israelis and Americans who have historically been sceptical about Iran’s intentions.”
