US to impose the ‘toughest sanctions in history’ on Iran

The US is threatening further sanctions on Iran as the conflict continues to escalate.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian says his country is in a “full-scale” war.

This comes as US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to announce on Monday, local time, the “toughest sanctions in history” against Iran.

The White House is also expected to call on China to cooperate with its plan to squeeze Iran financially.

Mohsen Rezaei, the head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, told Iranian media that Tehran doesn’t seek to expand war in the region but “if countries neighbouring Iran cooperate with the Americans in the economic war, we will target their interests”.
