US execution footage sparks calls for Australian broadcast ban

News24 host Peter Stefanovic reports calls for the government and eSafety Commissioner to intervene over plans for footage of a proposed US military execution to be broadcast in Australia.

“Australian media outlets and social media platforms are being called to prevent footage of a planned US execution from being broadcast in the country,” Mr Stefanovic said.

“The Greens Senator, Sarah Hansen -Young, has asked the government and the eSafety Commissioner to intervene, while the One Nation Senator, Barnaby Joyce, has also condemned the plan.

“Labor says broadcasters are expected to exercise strong editorial control over violent or distressing material.”
