Ultron’s VisionQuest Return Could Fix An 11-Year-Old MCU Mistake
Vision Quest could end up being the MCU’s strangest, smartest, and most emotionally ambitious Disney+ series yet. As the final chapter in Marvel’s unofficial WandaVision trilogy, the upcoming show is bringing together threads from WandaVision, Agatha All Along, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and even Iron Man in ways that could fundamentally reshape Vision’s story.
Paul Bettany returns as White Vision, now struggling to reconcile restored memories with a fractured sense of identity. But this isn’t just another “find yourself” Marvel arc. Vision Quest reportedly dives deep into themes of memory, fatherhood, trauma, and artificial consciousness, with Star Trek: Picard season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas steering the project into much more cerebral sci-fi territory.
The return of James Spader’s Ultron may be the biggest reveal so far. Not only is the villain returning after more than a decade, but Vision Quest could finally explore the twisted father-son dynamic between creator and creation that the MCU barely touched in Age of Ultron. Add in Tommy Maximoff’s return, MCU AI characters like JARVIS and FRIDAY appearing inside Vision’s mind, and growing theories about Wanda Maximoff’s comeback, and suddenly this series feels far bigger than expected.
If Marvel pulls this off, Vision Quest may become one of 2026’s biggest sleeper hits.
