Trump talks ‘regime collapse’ as US avoids regime change in Iran
The Foreign Desk Editor-in-Chief Lisa Daftari weighs in on US President Donald Trump’s approach to Iran and warns of the key difference between regime change and regime collapse.
“Donald Trump has not set out for regime change, but he did talk about regime collapse,” Ms Daftari told Sky News host Danica De Giorgio.
“The United States doesn’t talk about regime change because we have never done it well; we have bad examples in history.
“We messed up, we gave too much, and we got too little, and we didn’t end up with any government that would help us, we are talking about … places where we had some sort of involvement on the ground.
“We don’t want to nation-build, and we don’t want to determine the future of Iran, but … a regime change in Iran would help the entire global community.
“That is why you see the Persian Gulf Arab states … pushing Donald Trump to finish the job.”
