Trump governs through executive orders as Congress stalls
University of Sydney Professor Simon Jackman criticised the Republican-led Congress during the Trump administration for its lack of action on global issues.
“One thing about this presidency … is that he’s used executive orders so much, even when he’s had a Republican Congress, they have been the ultimate do-nothing Congress, and that’s when he’s had the majority there,” Mr Jackman told Sky News Australia.
“Trump is largely doing so much governing and in a way that I don’t think we’ve seen since the Civil War.
“A president writing executive orders and, moreover, willing to be lawless … and then asking for forgiveness from the courts.”
