Trump advisers sound alarm on China over fears it could invade Taiwan in the next five years
US President Donald Trump’s advisers have warned that China could invade Taiwan in the next five years.
The warning follows Trump’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, with the invasion threatening to block chips used in AI to US companies, according to Axios.
An advisor to the president revealed to Axios that President Xi is “trying to move China to a new position”.
The advisor added that Xi wants the US to view China as “not a rising power” but an “equal” to the US and that Taiwan belongs to Jinping.
“This trip signalled a much higher likelihood that Taiwan will be on the table in the next five years,” the advisor said.
