This is the ONLY WAY out of this…
If you are right of center and you work in entertainment, there is a ceiling on how far your work travels, and it has nothing to do with quality. This is the follow-up to the Reddit videos, and this time it is about the solution.
I have done over 15 million dollars in total sales and still get ignored by outlets that will write up creators selling a fraction of that. That is not a complaint, it is data. The treatment is asymmetrical: one set of views costs you nothing publicly, the other set gets you filtered before anyone looks at the work. Daniel Warren Johnson drew Absolute Batman choking an ICE agent and is drawing the Absolute Batman Annual. Nobody’s career ended. That is the asymmetry in one example.
Here is the harder part, and it is aimed at my own side. We call ourselves content creators and mostly we are not. We react. The legacy studios and publishers supply the material, everybody else responds to it, and the response is the business model. That hands them a permanent win, because attention flows to them either way. I include myself in the criticism. I should have started the Rippaverse earlier and spent less time talking about what everyone else was making.
So what is the actual path out? Tame your expectations, because you will not be judged on your own merits by people who filter on politics first. Then go grassroots: make original work, seek out the people making it, connect online and offline, and accept that this takes years rather than a hostile takeover. There is no Elon Musk coming to buy games or film and fix it for you.
I also get into why being ignored is worse than being attacked, why I keep extending the olive branch even when it fails, and the dumbest habit on this side of the fence: creators right of center tearing each other apart while the people they are competing with sit comfortably.
