They NEVER bothered to listen… | The Rippaverse’s Mission
Every few months the same thing happens. Someone pops up online claiming to know what the Rippaverse is really about. What my real motivations are. What I actually believe. And every single time it becomes obvious they have never listened to a word I have said or they are being intentionally dishonest because the truth does not fit the narrative they want to push.
The mission statement for this company has been public since before Isom number one ever went on sale. It was the very first video we ever put out. In it I talked about respecting the customer, maintaining canon and continuity, making it easy for new readers to get into the universe, and not beating people over the head with on-the-nose current politics and narratives. I said your ethnic background and genetic makeup are wholly irrelevant to us. None of that has changed.
The Rippaverse was always about fun. It was always about making good comics and creating stories that prioritize entertainment over agendas. Yes I was frustrated watching some of my favorite characters get turned into unrecognizable mouthpieces for whatever social cause was trending that week. I have never hidden that. But being frustrated with what the major publishers were doing is not the same thing as building a company to play politics from the other side.
I also address the social media post people love to bring up about moonwalking on dead careers and explain the actual context behind it, who it was really aimed at, and why people deliberately strip that context away to try to redefine what this company stands for.
The answer to what the Rippaverse is has been public since day one. It is in the launch video. It is on the Rippaverse Ethic page printed in every single book we have ever released. Some people are never going to engage honestly with what we are doing and I have accepted that. But for anyone who actually wants to know, all you have to do is listen.
