The Most Powerful Drugs in Entertainment?

Question I want answered in the comments: are nostalgia and FOMO the most powerful drugs in entertainment? My answer is yes, and here’s the mechanism. Nostalgia lets mega corporations land dud after dud knowing you’ll give the next one a shot anyway, because brand power is effectively permission to miss. Independents do not have that luxury. FOMO is the conversation tax: people buy the game and watch the show just to be knowledgeable enough to participate online. Stack the two together and buyer habits never change no matter how loud the griping gets, and the corporations are hyper aware of the power that gives them, right down to studio closures that just reshuffle the same people inside the same conglomerate.
