The Batman Part II: Poison Ivy Could Fix 3 Big Problems
Scarlett Johansson’s mysterious role in The Batman Part II has fueled theories ranging from Phantasm to Gilda Dent, but Poison Ivy may be the possibility that best fits Matt Reeves’ grounded Gotham.
The theory gets especially interesting if Pamela Isley is reinvented without plant-controlling powers. Instead, Ivy could become a scientist using botanical knowledge, engineered toxins, and slow-acting poisons to create the kind of clinical horror that would feel right at home alongside Robert Pattinson’s Batman. That approach could preserve what makes Poison Ivy frightening without suddenly introducing overt fantasy into Reeves’ universe.
There’s also a compelling Bruce Wayne connection. With Gotham recovering from the catastrophic flood, Ivy could challenge Bruce over his wealth, Wayne Enterprises, and whether punching criminals is really enough to fix a broken city. She could even fill some of the emotional space Selina Kyle occupied by confronting Bruce’s privilege while developing a complicated connection with him.
And for Johansson, the potential casting would offer something very different from Natasha Romanoff. After spending more than a decade playing the MCU’s dependable Black Widow, a calculating and deeply unsettling Pamela Isley could give her the opportunity to completely reverse audience expectations.
For now, Johansson’s character remains undisclosed, making Poison Ivy an intriguing theory rather than a confirmed role.
