A new channel about the creative process, the work, and the fun parts of building things. Here’s the thinking behind starting Eric July Creates.

I started YoungRippa59 at 16 years old, back when YouTube encouraged you to post whatever you felt like. That version of the platform is gone. Since 2012 the system has optimized for watch time and viewer profiles, which means a channel gets sorted into one lane and stays there. If a big influx of people subscribes for one subject, that becomes the profile, and everything outside it gets throttled.

That’s why creators with multiple interests run multiple channels. It isn’t a preference. It’s how the machine is built.

YoungRippa59 isn’t going anywhere. It stays for streams and updates. Eric July Creates is the fun one: the creative process, writing, what I’m seeing in the industry broken down without the heaviness, conventions and events, and when I talk about other people’s work here, it’s in a positive light.
