More About “Selvedge”:
In a future world, 30 years from now, AI has become widely present and ‘mixed race’ children are being born from human and AI parents.
Selvedge tells a story of a family of three where Ibra, the AI father, has been separated from his human wife Huma and their hybrid daughter Nara. After receiving a sign from the father to come to a secret location, Huma and Nara set off on a journey to reunite with him.
Director’s Statement:
This story is a metaphor of the contemporary world. We live in a reality that is strongly polarized, where we are constantly told to be wary of people who are different from us, whether race, religion, looks or values. That fear creates a wall that disconnects us and is making us less human to each other. In ‘Selvedge’ it is the faith of the little girl who is brave enough to break down the wall. Her trust and need for connection with her father is stronger than any divisions that the world around her presents. I really think in the present climate, more than ever, we need stories to unite people rather than divide us. I hope that ‘Selvedge’ will speak to audiences in that way.
