Pope Leo meets with Marco Rubio amid tensions with Donald Trump
Pope Leo has marked his one-year anniversary as leader of the Catholic Church by visiting the Italian city of Naples, praising refugee assistance initiatives.
The Pontiff greeted around 50,000 citizens, echoing sentiments surrounding global conflicts that world peace is “endangered by international tensions”.
His speech is a day after he met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at The Vatican, who made the trip from Washington DC to smooth relations in the wake of personal attacks from US President Donald Trump towards the Pontiff.
