News24 host unloads on the 44,000 Aboriginal land claims awaiting determination in NSW
News24 host James Macpherson warns NSW has 44,000 Aboriginal land claims awaiting determination, arguing claims can be lodged in minutes while taxpayers fund months of investigations into whether they have merit.
“Right now, the NSW State Government has 44,000 Aboriginal land claims sitting on its desk awaiting determination. 44,000,” Mr Macpherson said.
“So, if you do the math, on average there are three new Aboriginal land claims made in the State of NSW every single day.
“A one-line email. That’s it. You can apparently launch a claim over Crown land with less administrative effort than it takes to order a pizza. So, the time it takes to make the claim can literally be less than a minute.
“The other side gets to employ people to spend months working out whether the email has any merit. And the email is free. The investigation isn’t.”
