New York mayoral election voting begins

Polls are open for millions of voters in the US for both state and local elections.

In New York, three candidates are vying for the chance to lead the country’s largest city: Democrat Zohran Mamdani, Independent Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

34-year-old Mamdani is attempting a political upset to become the city’s youngest mayor in a century.

The race has captured national attention, with President Donald Trump endorsing his own former political rival Andrew Cuomo, urging voters not to elect left-wing Mamdani.
