Nationals leader sidesteps questions on party’s future amid One Nation threat

Nationals Leader Matt Canavan sidestepped questions about the party’s potential demise amid the rise of One Nation, shifting focus to his commitment to public service.

“Well, look, I’m concerned about our country, and obviously, given the country is sliding into decline right now, that’s going to put pressure on all politicians,” Mr Canavan told News24 Political Editor Andrew Clennell.

“I’m under no illusions that somehow I’m entitled to a position in the nation’s parliament. I’ve always cherished it as a privilege, a huge responsibility, but something I have to work for every day.”
