Mortal Kombat II Postmortem – Part 3 now in doubt?

A lot of fans were unhappy with the Mortal Kombat reboot from 2021. For the sequel, the producers actually listened to the fan feedback, gave Ed Boon an expanded creative role, and went a far way in fixing the issues that held back the first movie.
Indeed, initial fan reviews were strong and the early boxoffice results great, which normally would translate to the movie outperforming tracking estimates in its opening weekend. Instead, it underperformed expectations, and in the all important second weekend, it dropped almost seventy percent, which means … it’s done for. So, what went wrong?
Will there even be a sequel at this point, or will the fans of Karl Urban start chanting Make Mortal Kombat 3 alongside Make Dredd 2?
