Lindsay Clancy’s murder case returned to court—and the hearing rapidly turned into another bitter confrontation over the lone juror who prevented an acquittal.
Defense attorney Kevin Reddington angrily rejected accusations that he had persecuted or attacked holdout juror Michael Desronvil. Reddington told the court he was tired of hearing those claims, insisted he had filed only one motion concerning the juror and said his public comments had come in response to extreme rhetoric aimed at Clancy.
Reddington referenced comments ranging from President Donald Trump to Rep. Nancy Mace and Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz. Mace publicly suggested that Clancy deserved execution, while Trump commented on the case without having the power to pardon someone charged under Massachusetts law.
The defense is seeking access to records concerning Desronvil and wants the court to examine allegations that the juror used a cellphone during deliberations or failed to disclose relevant history. Those accusations have not been established by a court, and Desronvil has denied that bias controlled his decision.
Prosecutors have pushed back against the defense’s treatment of the juror and oppose the renewed effort to have Clancy found not guilty without another trial. The first jury reportedly divided 11–1 in favor of finding her not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility, but unanimity was required.
Reddington also made a striking new argument, claiming the Commonwealth had failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Clancy physically committed the killings. During the original trial, the central dispute was not whether Clancy killed her children but whether severe mental illness left her criminally responsible. Prosecutor Shanan Buckingham reportedly called the new position “laughable,” pointing to evidence and stipulations presented at trial.
Judge William Sullivan did not end the case at this hearing. He scheduled another proceeding for November 2, when the parties are expected to address the pending motions and the possibility of a second trial.
Clancy remains charged with murdering her three children, Cora, Dawson and Callan, in January 2023. No new verdict has been entered, and the disputed allegations concerning the holdout juror remain unresolved.
