‘I’ve just been emotional’: Sir David Beckham knighted by the King

Former England football captain Sir David Beckham has been knighted by the King.

“I cried when I first found out and possibly for a few months after it,” Mr Beckham said.

“This week has been really emotional because being back in London and obviously in the lead up to this day, it’s been not stressful; I’ve not been nervous, I’ve just been emotional.”

His Majesty performed the ceremony at Windsor Castle.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder has worked with humanitarian aid charity UNICEF since 2005.
