Greens Senator urges shift away from AUKUS toward a regional defence focus
Greens Senator David Shoebridge has renewed his criticism of the AUKUS agreement, calling Australia’s planned fleet of nuclear-powered submarines unnecessarily expensive.
Mr Shoebridge argues the submarines would draw Australia into “someone else’s knife fight” and that the nation should focus on defending its own region rather than projecting military force abroad.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has dismissed Shoebridge’s comments.
