General Jack Keane: US-Australian political relationship is ‘not what it should be’

Former US Army vice chief of staff General Jack Keane discusses the political relationship between the United States and Australia as the war in Iran continues.

“When it comes to the relationship right now with Australia, the military-to-military relationship is as good as it could be,” Mr Keane told Sky News host James Macpherson.

“The political relationship is not what it should be, and that I think is largely to do with the political leadership in Australia, moving towards China at a time when the United States has asked for allies and partners to assist it.

“When we asked for a little bit of assistance, some of it was fairly frustrating to deal with.”
