Former PM caught in close call during out-of-control fire

Former prime minister Tony Abbott was present during a hazard reduction burn in Sydney’s south that briefly escaped containment lines.

Reports indicate that Mr Abbott was part of the fire crew on Saturday when the planned burn extended beyond its designated area.

The fire was contained before posing a significant threat, though it approached several nearby properties.

Paramedics assessed up to 19 people at the scene, with one individual treated for smoke inhalation.
