Federal government blasted over short-term ‘money grab’ compromising Sydney security
Lieutenant General (Retd) Ken Gillespie claims the sale of Victoria Barracks would be a “money grab at the expense of the security of Sydney”.
“If you go back and look at a series of Auditor-General reports that have been done over the years, we find that defense disposals of this type have had a short-term money hit and then a long-term impost, increased rents, etc., on the budget,” Mr Gillespie told News24 host Caleb Bond.
“So, if there is any budgetary support for this sort of argument, then it’s short-term in nature, not long-term and planning.”
