‘Effective immediately’: Donald Trump hikes global tariffs amid Supreme Court’s ruling
US President Donald Trump has announced he will increase a temporary global tariff on imported goods from 10 to 15 per cent effective immediately.
The move follows a Supreme Court ruling against tariffs imposed under emergency economic powers.
President Trump claims the measures would protect American industries and accused other countries of “ripping off” the United States for decades.
The US President criticised the court’s decision in a Truth Social post, saying: “During the next short number of months, the Trump administration will determine and issue the new and legally permissible tariffs.
“Which will continue our extraordinarily successful process of Making America Great Again – Greater than ever before.”
