Bayeux Tapestry on show for first time in nearly 1,000 years | BBC News

Doors have opened to the Bayeux Tapestry exhibition at the British Museum in London.

It has gone on public display in the UK for the first time since it was created nearly 1,000 years ago.

The 70m tapestry, originally embroidered in England but kept for centuries in France, tells the story of the Norman Conquest and the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

Outside the museum, visitors have queued to get in to be some of the first to see it.
