Australia launches bid for a seat on the UN Security Council

Australia has formally launched its bid for a seat on the United Nations Security Council.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has kicked off the campaign overnight in New York, seeking a two-year term in 2029 and 2030.

Australia will need a two-thirds majority to win a seat when the UN General Assembly meet to vote in June 2028.
