Anthony Albanese backs US actions against Iran following attack

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has welcomed the US intervention in Iran and is calling for Australian citizens in the region to take cover.

Mr Albanese said in a statement: “Australia stands with the brave people of Iran in their struggle against oppression.

“For decades, the Iranian regime has been a destabilising force, through its ballistic missile and nuclear programs, support for armed proxies, and brutal acts of violence and intimidation.

“We support the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent Iran continuing to threaten international peace and security.”

The Prime Minister will hold a National Security Committee Cabinet meeting on Sunday morning amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
