After the 2026 midterms, the right is about to make the same mistakes again, because it has almost no culture of its own to fall back on.
This is my third and final video on the midterm fallout, and I think it’s the most important one. Go down the list: Hollywood, the streamers, the record labels, book publishing, comics, video games, the newsrooms, late night, the award shows, the universities, the grade schools and the pro leagues. The right doesn’t own any of it. Meanwhile Republicans spent over $5 billion on political ads this cycle. Elon Musk spent more than $290 million on the 2024 election, and two years later Republicans lost both chambers. Politics is downstream of culture, and the right keeps putting all its money downstream.
I get into who I actually mean by the right and how far the Republican Party has drifted toward 1990s Democrats. Brandon Herrera outraised his opponent four to one in a Trump +15 district and still lost. Malfoid memes and AI Star Wars posts won’t take anything back. What does work is building your own institutions. That means businesses, schools, studios and publishers, and the people who can’t build supporting the ones who can.
