Analysis: A rapidly warming Himalayan region

Following the deadly floods in Nepal, it may be too soon to draw a direct link to climate change, but the role of a rapidly warming Himalaya can’t be ignored.

A massive collapse high in the Himalayas sent ice, rock, and debris crashing down the mountain, triggering a torrent of water which travelled around 150 kilometres per hour.

As rescue efforts continue, scientists are looking at the bigger picture and the fingerprints of a rapidly warming Himalaya.

At the site of the glacier slip, temperatures had risen by 2.6 degrees Celsius in 85 years.
