Abdul El-Sayed’s Michigan win signals left shift in Democratic politics

US political analyst Aidan Smith reacts to Abdul El-Sayed’s win in the Democratic Michigan primary.

“During the primary, it was interesting because generally, moderate establishment-type Democrats tried to paint him as being unelectable,” Mr Smith told News24.

“When you actually looked at the survey data, he was in many polls actually performing better versus the Republican Mike Rogers.

“Obviously, Democratic voters don’t like Mr Trump, but they also are not satisfied with Chuck Schumer, they’re not satisfied with Hakeem Jeffries.

“I think that when it comes down to it, you’re going to see a lot more candidates like Abdul El-Sayed perform really well in Democratic primaries.”
