‘We aren’t paying attention’: Multilateral action urgently needed as AI threatens global order

Technology communications expert Dex Hunter-Torricke says AI won’t “kill everyone” any time soon, but its risks are serious.

“It is not at all about what some of the very sensationalist claims that were in the media recently by some of the folks coming out of the AI labs are referring to,” Mr Hunter-Torricke told News24.

​“AI is not going to kill everyone in the world in the next few years. The technical risks from AI, while serious, are nowhere near that kind of science fiction depiction.

​“What is very serious is how AI will impact our societies, our economies, our global order, and our environment. Those are real effects that we’re already seeing; you don’t need to wait for any science fiction predictions, and we are really not paying attention to those risks.”
