Steve Irwin still gives us ‘a real sense of national pride’ 20 years after his death

News24 contributor Joe Hildebrand remembers Steve Irwin 20 years on from his tragic death.

“He was such a huge star in the US; we’d kind of almost forgotten about him,” Mr Hildebrand said.

“When he died, and there was that huge global outpouring … we actually produced something extraordinary in this guy.

“That gave us a real sense of national pride and ownership over Steve Irwin.”
