The devastating footage from the Senatobia Walmart shooting has finally leaked—and it changes a major part of the story. Police were responding after two women were accused of stealing diapers and baby clothes. Video shows them running to a gray sedan with one-year-old Kohen Wiley, reversing into a parked vehicle and then accelerating toward officers who were surrounding the car and ordering the driver to stop. Action News 5 reports that the vehicle struck an officer before Officer Hunter Foster sidestepped and fired into it, killing Kohen and seriously wounding driver Latoya Ferrell. Kohen was being held by his mother, Vellesiya Wiley, in the front passenger seat.
The footage contradicts the earlier account that the car simply drove away from police—but it does not answer everything. The leaked package includes three officers’ bodycams and two Walmart surveillance angles, while Foster’s own bodycam is missing even though authorities say it exists. Afterward, Foster can reportedly be heard saying he never saw a baby in the car. Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch has ruled the shooting justified and will not charge the officer. Neither woman had been charged with shoplifting or any other crime when the footage emerged, Wiley denies stealing and the family’s lawyers continue to dispute whether firing was necessary.
