The recent controversy at the BAFTA’s caused quite the stir online, and it exposed a lot of people for not being the tolerant and inclusive paragons of virtue they liked to think they are. So join me as I break it down.

This scene from Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy showcases the power of a very long lens to compress subjects within the frame. Cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema used this technique to perfection in the movie, creating the illusion of danger where there is none.
