WATCH: US Navy fires on and seizes Iranian ship attempting to breach blockade
US Central Command has released footage of American forces firing at an Iranian-flagged cargo ship as they enforced blockade measures to prevent the vessel from passing.
According to US Central Command, Guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance intercepted Touska, which was en route to Iran and had issued multiple warnings and informed the crew it was in violation of the blockade.
After the crew onboard the vessel failed to comply with repeated warnings, US Central Command says Spruance “directed the vessel to evacuate its engine room” and “disabled Touska’s propulsion by firing several rounds from the destroyer’s 5-inch MK 45 Gun into Touska’s engine room”.
US Marines later boarded the vessel, which now remains in American custody.
