Trump puts ‘enormous pressure’ on Iran as war shakes global economy

Ian Parmeter analyses Donald Trump’s ultimatum demanding Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

“I think President Trump certainly wants to end the war as soon as possible, he knows it’s not popular in the US,” Mr Parmeter told Sky News Australia.

“There probably is a limit to what he realises he can achieve in Iran.

“The big problem is that while Iran can block the Strait of Hormuz, he can’t say the war is won … so his aim clearly is to put enormous pressure on the regime to open the strait.

“Iran’s main method of fighting the war is to declare war on the global economy.”
