This SHOULD NOT upset you…
There’s a conversation happening online right now about The Rippaverse, and it reveals something that goes way beyond one company or one comic. It reveals how a lot of people in the entertainment space don’t actually care about the quality of the work. They care about who likes it. And if the wrong people on the political spectrum enjoy something, in their eyes, that thing becomes illegitimate.
Someone online called The Rippaverse a scam, claiming we haven’t gotten past issue 4. That alone tells you the level of ignorance driving the conversation. We’ve released well over 350 pages of Isom alone — the equivalent of about 15 traditional floppy issues. We don’t release floppies. We release bigger format books. That’s how we’ve always operated. The initial campaign wasn’t a fundraiser for a series — it was a pre-order. And we’ve delivered on everything we said we would, across multiple titles.
But the real issue isn’t the misinformation. It’s the attitude behind it. There’s a segment of people, particularly on the hyper-political left, who behave as if they own entertainment. As if publishing, music, and film belong to them. And if someone outside their political comfort zone creates something — or worse, if people outside that comfort zone enjoy something — it can’t be legitimate. That’s the real gatekeeping happening in entertainment right now.
My position has always been the same. I do not care where you fall on the political spectrum. If you enjoy The Rippaverse, you are welcome as a customer. Full stop. Our creators come from different walks of life. Our audience comes from different walks of life. We don’t have political litmus tests for employees, contractors, or customers. We just want to make fun entertainment for anyone willing to give it the time of day. That’s it. Republicans buy sneakers too. And they read comics. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
