Race & Original Characters | The Left Pretends to Misunderstand

There’s a difference between creating black characters and constantly relying on racial tropes to define them.

Viz Media recently promoted a manga called Half Is More, and the discourse online quickly turned into the usual “stop blackwashing” vs “just make your own characters” debate. But the truth is—it’s not that complicated.

In this video, I break down why tokenization and race-based storytelling have become lazy, predictable, and creatively bankrupt. You can absolutely make black characters that aren’t built around oppression, struggle, or victimhood—and they can still be compelling.

I’ve done it myself with Isom, Salvage, and Bloodruth. This isn’t about race—it’s about good writing, originality, and respecting your audience.
