‘One strike rule’: Jess Wilson vows to overhaul the ‘revolving door of bail’ in Victoria
Victoria Opposition Leader Jess Wilson says she is confident to reduce the number of crime victims if she is elected.
“We have a comprehensive plan. I’ve spoken about our plan to put 3000 more police on the beat, not only to make sure that they are on our streets and in our patrol cars, but to reopen more than 40 police stations that have closed or reduced their hours under this Labor government in the past few years,” Ms Wilson told News24 host Chris Kenny.
“The criminal justice system here … is completely out of step with community expectations.
“We’re seeing a revolving door of bail, we’re seeing a slap on the wrist when it comes to sentencing.
“We will legislate… a one-strike rule for bail to stop that revolving door of bail, but to also put in place genuine adult crime, adult time laws that will make sure that young offenders are actually held to account and are put in jail.”
