Man of Tomorrow: Superman Could Lose His Movie Again
Man of Tomorrow is shaping up to be one of the DCU’s biggest crossover events, but James Gunn’s ambitious Superman sequel could be putting its most important characters at risk of getting lost in the crowd.
David Corenswet’s Superman and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor are set to form an unlikely alliance against Brainiac, creating a fascinating conflict between two longtime enemies. Yet with an expanding supporting cast and rumors of appearances from Batman and Wonder Woman, the movie could become much bigger than that central relationship.
It’s a familiar concern for DC fans. Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman attempted to introduce multiple superheroes while establishing the foundations of an entire cinematic universe. Instead, Superman’s personal story struggled to compete with the larger franchise setup.
James Gunn has already demonstrated his ability to balance superhero ensembles through Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad, and Superman. But Man of Tomorrow presents a different challenge as the DCU continues expanding across movies and television.
We explore why Brainiac could be the key to making this massive story work, how supporting characters should fit into Superman’s journey, and whether introducing Batman or Wonder Woman would help or hurt the film.
Can Gunn deliver an ambitious DC crossover without sacrificing the characters at its center?
