Minnesota taxpayers have awarded millions of dollars to Southside Harm Reduction Services, a nonprofit that openly distributes “booty bumping” kits designed to help people consume drugs rectally. Its own pamphlet says the kits contain drug cookers, a scoop, lubricant, sterile water and syringe barrels. It even tells users to “try to poop before” and says it never hurts to have a “boofing buddy.” Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan promoted a $100 million homelessness-grant package that named Southside as one of 135 recipients. Official records also show a $432,000 grant and a later $2.5 million contract containing $147,000 for broadly described “safer-use supplies.” The Washington Free Beacon reports that Minnesota has awarded the organization $7.9 million since 2023.
Now Flanagan is running for the United States Senate—and Ilhan Omar proudly endorsed her as exactly the kind of progressive fighter Minnesota needs. Omar is not accused of approving these grants; her connection is that she is helping elect the lieutenant governor whose administration promoted and funded the organization. There is one important distinction: the contracts fund Southside and broadly list harm-reduction services or safer-use supplies, but they do not expressly identify these kits as a separate taxpayer-funded line item. Minnesota didn’t publish an invoice marked “booty bump kits.” Taxpayers did, however, fund the organization openly distributing them—and Omar now wants one of the politicians attached to that record sent to Washington.
