Alien Sequel: What Did Brian Duffield Actually Do?
Brian Duffield has finally addressed the rumors surrounding his involvement in the Alien franchise, but his explanation raises a fascinating new question about the future of the Xenomorph universe.
After months of speculation that the Whalefall filmmaker could write or direct a new Alien movie, Duffield clarified that he was only brought in to help with a screenplay for a few weeks. He isn’t directing the next installment, and he hasn’t confirmed which Alien project received his contributions.
That leaves two intriguing possibilities. An Alien: Romulus sequel is in development, with Fede Álvarez remaining involved as a producer rather than returning to direct. Meanwhile, Ridley Scott has discussed continuing the story of Alien: Covenant, potentially bringing Michael Fassbender’s David back into the spotlight.
Could Duffield have helped shape Rain and Andy’s next nightmare, or was his work connected to Scott’s unfinished storyline?
We examine Duffield’s comments, the competing possibilities for the next Alien movie, and why the Romulus sequel currently looks like the stronger candidate. Plus, Sigourney Weaver’s discussions about potentially returning as Ellen Ripley add another intriguing possibility to the franchise’s future.
The rumors may be over, but the mystery surrounding Alien’s next chapter is far from solved.
