He told them to stop bullying a girl—and deputies say nine students later attacked him. A 17-year-old near Florida’s Harmony High School needed eleven stitches after the alleged assault on October 16. Investigators say the confrontation began when he challenged students throwing food at another girl during lunch, before leaving the area with his girlfriend to de-escalate things.
Later, as he walked to his car, deputies say one student struck him and eight others joined in. Cellphone video helped investigators identify the suspects, and all nine were arrested on October 21 on felony aggravated battery and inciting-a-riot charges. We’re looking at the reported attack, the arrests and why standing up for someone should never mean becoming the next target. The charges remain allegations pending court proceedings.
